The Oxford Playhouse was built in 1938, the last newly built theatre before the war. Shows are performed there in drama, dance, music, comedy, poetry and lectures. And actors as renown as Judi Dench, Ian Mckellen, Dudley Moore and Michael Palin amongst hundreds of other talents have performed there. Perhaps most famously a performance of Dr. Faustus in 1966 with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor was shown there. The Oxford Playhouse is now one of the most famous theatres in the country.
